I paint the question, not the answer.
I paint when an inquiry demands expression, probing identity, consciousness, mortality, and the boundaries of perception. These are personal confrontations, not problems I seek to solve. I paint to give them form, turning each canvas into an undeniable record of that struggle.
To articulate what cannot be seen, I command a visual language that fuses the dreamlike logic of Surrealism with the uncompromising rigor of Renaissance realism. Classical structure, light, and symbolism are precision tools, serving as the essential weight required to ground my abstract existential truths into tangible reality.
When I look at a finished work, I do not see a past image; I encounter the exact state of mind that brought it to life. My paintings act as mirrors for my own mind, confronting me with the raw inquiries that forced the work into existence.
Biography
Born in 1971 in Karachi, Pakistan, Saqib began exploring visual expression at an early age. After completing his studies in Fine Arts in Karachi in 1998, he moved to the United States, where he currently resides and works. His perspective is shaped by this geographic transition, informing a grounded, reflective approach to art making that bridges classical rigor with existential surrealism.
Over the years, Saqib’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across both Pakistan and the United States, earning recognition for its technical execution and conceptual gravity. Following these exhibitions, he turned his focus inward, stepping away from public showing to dedicate an extended period to private studio inquiry, refining his visual language and developing his current body of work.
Driven by personal inquiry rather than external trends, Saqib's process treats each painting as an intense confrontation with questions of identity, consciousness, and perception.
Critical Commentary
Saqib's paintings are thinking pieces. His brush is dipped deep into the complexities of philosophy. For him, the visual inner context is more important than its visual reference. The key element of his work is his strong compositions and management of light, where objective and subjective sensibilities mingle in an attempt to reach an answer. — Hameed Zaman (Art Critic)
